Specialty Resident Medicine Rotations

Participating in a rural rotation is more than just a great learning opportunity.  It is a real experience with the rural community lifestyle, culture and local outdoor pursuits.

Components of the rural rotations include:

  • Clinical - Lots of opportunities to improve on practical and procedural skills in many specialties and sub-specialties.
  • Professional - Experiencing the diverse roles of physicians in communities and community hospitals while working together as a team with local specialists.
  • Social - Exposure to rural lifestyle and culture
  • Academic - Researching and presenting clinical rounds. All preceptors are required to meet the standards of excellence required for academic appointment in an Ontario faculty of medicine and will be evaluated by McMaster University on a regular basis.

Criteria for Funding

Specialty rotations must be for a minimum of one month. Applications must be made through the ROMP office at least one month prior to start date. Residents from any medical school in Ontario can apply for these rotations. Funding provides assistance for accommodation and travel.
