Summer Elective placement applications for students from University of Ottawa will only be accepted between January 2nd and January 13th, 2012.
Summer Elective placement applications for students from Queen's University will only be accepted between January 16th and January 27th, 2012.
Students are asked to choose a four-week block and three communities.
Applications must include all of the following three items to be considered complete:
Online Application;
Letter of Good Standing;
Letter of Intent
Please ask that a Letter of Good Standing be faxed to the ROMP office. This is a document that states that the learner is covered by malpractice insurance while away from the academic centre and is in good academic standing. When requesting the letter from the program director, please indicate the deadline for applications to ensure that all documents reach our office on time.
The Letter of Intent should be e-mailed to the ROMP office as a word document and should include the learner's name, school and year of graduation. The purpose of the Letter of Intent is for the learner to describe (in 250 words or less) his or her interest in rural medicine, the communities selected and to explain why the he or she wants to participate in a Summer Elective placement..
First and second year students are asked to apply to Family Medicine as their specialty. In most communities, students will be exposed to a variety of specialties during their elective.
Ten learners will be placed at a time from each school. Once the learners have been placed, the waiting list will be opened to all other applications. When the waiting list opens, an e-mail will be sent to those applications that will be processed next.
Summer Elective applications that are received to the ROMP office without a letter of intent will be considered incomplete applications. The letter of intent must be one page long and can be faxed or e-mailed to the ROMP office.
Important Students are asked to find their own preceptor if electives are less than four weeks in duration; ROMP can offer assistance. Credentials and hospital privileges will be set up through ROMP for all rotations, which is why it is crucial that the application is filled out in full.
