Rural Medicine Week 2006

Success!  Triumph!  Over the top!  However you choose to look at it, Rural Medicine Week (RMW) 2006 was a great success for both the communities and the medical students.  RMW is a great opportunity for any community to showcase their medical community, their technology and other community assets to a small self selected group of first and second year students.   Seven communities within south central Ontario hosted students for the week of June 5th - 9th, 2006.  Each community stepped up to the plate and welcomed the students with open arms.

With one on one clinical time, the students were paraded around their chosen towns and shown all the jewls that rural Ontario has to offer.  Events ranged from farm tours and boat tours to charity galas; they were welcomed with BBQs and picnics.  Everyone was showered with gift bags and some were event sent on scavenger hunts to become better acquianted with the community.  The students left at the end of the week feeling that they would always be welcomed back, and eager to return with friends and family in tow.

Communities that hosted RMW 2006 include: Orillia, Orangeville, Midland, Campbellford, Simcoe, Fort Erie/Port Colborne and Cambridge.  Peterborough and Lindsay hosted Rural Medicine Weeks in May for learners from Queen's and Ottawa and Mount Forest hosted RMW in July for McMaster students.
