A great opportunity for all students interested in health care is a cooperative education placement in a hospital/clinic environment. Co-op gives students an opportunity to become exposed to a work environment that they may not have previously considered. Most high schools have co-op programs already in place, it is just a matter of letting the high school know that the hospital, clinic, nurses and/or doctors are willing to have a student work with them.
Many students are extremely interested in health care and a co-op placement will help them to investigate opportunities and whether the career will suit their personality. Co-op is comprised of: two or more credits linked to an in class course; a required learning plan; and a worksite assessment. Essentially Co-op integrates classroom and workplace learning.
